The Family Manifesto

The Family Manifesto for Early Learning and Childcare was developed by Naheed Mukhi and Andrea MacLeod in collaboration with ethnocultural brokers and community members from the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative (MCHB), Edmonton, and was funded by the Council for Early Learning and Care (CELC).

This living document reflects the voices, values, and experiences of newcomer and ethnocultural families navigating Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) systems in Canada. It is both a tool and a conversation starter, offering educators a window into the cultural identities, languages, and hopes that families bring to their child’s educational journey. The manifesto invites educators and caregivers to build authentic partnerships grounded in mutual respect, cultural responsiveness, and shared aspirations for children’s growth and success.

The CELC is proud to support and share this resource to help bridge home and school in meaningful ways.
