ECELC —> CELC: A Name Change to Reflect Impact

EDMONTON, October 8, 2025 — The Edmonton Council for Early Learning and Care (ECELC) has officially changed its name to the Council for Early Learning and Care (CELC), reflecting its evolving role as a provincial and systems-level collaborator in advancing high-quality, inclusive, and equitable early learning and child care across Alberta.

Founded in Edmonton as a local collaborative effort to strengthen early learning and care policy, CELC’s work has grown to inform and influence broader discussions on child-care systems, evidence-based policymaking, and equitable access for families throughout the province.

“Our name change to CELC recognizes the reality that our work, partnerships, and influence extend far beyond municipal boundaries,” said Barb Reid, Co-Chair for the Council. “CELC continues to advocate for an accountable, inclusive, and sustainable early learning and care system that benefits all Albertans.”

The Council will continue to champion evidence-based solutions, Indigenous leadership in early learning, and collaboration across government, educators, and community partners. Its research and advocacy efforts remain rooted in a commitment to ensuring that every child and family in Alberta has access to high-quality, culturally responsive, and affordable early learning and care.

Visitors can now find the organization online at [www.elccouncil.ca], with updated branding and resources being introduced over the coming months.
